An infant child or newborn baby may suffer a variety of birth defect injuries, including having a missing joint, deformed joint or undeveloped joint. These may be the result of the mother’s use of antidepressant Paxil -- a defective drug -- during pregnancy.
A congenital (at birth) birth defect can arise in any muscle or in any bone, including joints of bones. A muscle or a bone may be undeveloped upon birth, or structures which usually fall naturally into place may not be aligned properly, or may be separated.
Such conditions may lead to an abnormal appearance and may alter or affect the function of the body part involved. However, surgery can be applied to correct these conditions, sometimes by reconstructing body parts which are missing, undeveloped or deformed.
Indeed, a birth defect involving a joint or a limb usually needs some form of surgery to correct it. This is vital because a baby with an abnormal joint or limb may suffer from an additional abnormality at birth.
